Repo! the Genetic Opera

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is based off the 2002 stageplay The Necromerchant's Debt. After a world wide  epidemic of organ failures, a company (Geneco) arises with a cure. However, this cure has a repossession clause that has affected all the lives of the people involved with the company.

This film was directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. This film has been highly changed from its original stageplay. Considering how little advertised this film was it has done well among audiences. This film is a musical that is uncommon among other musicals because its a "goth rock-opera". It is, obviously, a horror film. This films story has heart mingled with its grisly violence. The heart is truly revealed at the end of the film. Its a familiar story of 'not becoming your parents and change the world' told with a twist. Every character has a history that is rapidly explained. This film isn't for all audiences, and its especially not a family friendly film. There is a lot of gore and nudity in the film. The songs are unique for a musical, and again is not for everyone. The music plays to a rock-n-roll/goth audience. The backdrop is uniquely chaotic and very dark. The costumes add to the goth feel of the environment.

The cast worked great together. Alexa Vega played the role of Shilo Wallace. She was great in her role. She gave an innocent look to the rebellious teenager. Anthony Head (Anthony Stewart Head) played the role of Nathan Wallace/Repo Man. He was great in his familiar role. He created a conflicted father and made a terrific monster. Paul Sorvino played the role of Rotti Largo. He was great in his role. He created a great villain in comparison to Head's character. Sarah Brightman played the role of Blind Mag. She was great in her role and provided a great operatic voice for the film. Paris Hilton played the role of Amber Sweet (Largo). She was good in her role playing... well... herself. Bill Moseley played the role of Luigi Largo. He was good in his limited role. (Nivek) Ogre played the role of Pavi Largo. He was good in his limited role. Terrance Zdunich played the role of the Graverobber. He was great in his narrator role.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! Admittedly, I'm a fan of horror a goth films. I enjoyed this unique take on musicals and horror films.

This film is based off the novel by Isaac Marion. R is an usual zombie with the ability to think clearly. He meets Julie during an attack, and decides to save her instead of eat her. The two begin to form an usual relationship that leads to change.

This film was directed by Jonathan Levine. Okay, this is obviously not your usual zombie film. This film offers give zombies a different presentation. That being said, a lot of die hard fans of the zombie genre will be disappointed with this film. However, this film is good date film for those couples who are un-conventional. The story is full of its own charm and humorous wit. It is considered a paranormal romance-which has become a new film genre. This film doesn't have a lot of gore in it. There are poorly computer animated villains (the Bonies) in the film. The zombie effects are simplistic but effective for the film. The backdrop of an apocalypse world was great creating an idea of the chaos surrounding the characters. This film isn't horror, but it does have several moments of tension.

The cast worked great together. Nicholas Hoult played the role of R. He was great in his role. He kept the zombie lifeless without being bland. Teresa Palmer played the role of Julie. She was great in her role. She created a heartwarming character who was trapped in the apocalypse  Analeigh Tipton played the role of Nora. She was good in her smal role. She added some small heartfelt humour to the film. Rob Corddry played the role of M. He was great in his small role. He added several moments of humour to the film. Dave Franco played role of Perry. He was great in his small role.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! It is a film with a unique twist on the zombie myth. It does a great job in keeping the feel of a zombie film.

Emily "Em" Brenek buys an antique box at a yard sale. However the box,  or Dibbuk Box, contains a malevolent spirit inside wanting to possess Emily. Her family, Clyde Brenek (her father), Stephanie (her mother), and Hannah Brenek (her sister) must work together to help save Emily's soul.

This film was directed by Ole Bornedal. This film is very familiar to films like the Exorcist where a little girl is being possessed by some entity, and her family tries to save her. Unfortunately  this has become a film cliche on its own. During the films story there are several other cliches used to tell its story. There are several unnerving moments particularly towards the end. But, this film does not offer any long lasting scares. Some of the visuals were well done to add to those unnerving moments. It was great to see the stylings of the box in the film. The design of the box itself was creepy. This 92 minute film is good for a general unnerving film, but not as a unique horror film.

The cast worked good together. There could've been more done with the characters to make them stand out better on screen. Jeffrey Dean Morgan played the role of Clyde Bernek. He was good in his role. The script made his character appear non-dimensional  but he managed to make the character likable. Natasha Calls played the role of Emily "Em" Bernek. She was great in her role. She made her character very creepy. Kyra Sedgwick played the role of Stephanie. She was good in her small role. She gave the film some heart. Madison Davenport played the role of Hannah Brenek. She was good in her small role. More could've been done with her character.

I give this film 3 out of 5 stars! It is a great visually creepy film, but it does not do much to offer to the horror genre.

This film is based off Andres Muschietti's 2008 spanish short film. Annabel and Lucas are haunted by Lucas' past. His nieces, Victoria and Lily, are found having lived alone in a cabin for five years. Annabel and Lucas change their lives to adopt the two little girls. However, a dark secret has followed the girls into their new home.

This film was directed by Andres Muschietti, and was produced by Guillermo Del Toro. This film's story is much a fairy tale and ghost thriller cocktail. This film reminiscences Pan's Labyrinth to a degree. The story is very dark but also as heartwarming as it is saddening. In some ways it feels like much of the Mama character is an creature from the girls imaginations. There can be some confusion within the stories plot since most of it is explained out of order. It is moderately family friendly with its lack of gore giving it a PG-13 rating. This film takes from other horror and gothic films and mixes them together greatly leaving the visuals familiar to audiences. It has several moments of creepy thrills with moments of random humor. This film is a great winter horror film for 2013.

The cast worked great together. Jessica Chastain played the role of Annabel. She was great in her role. She made an unlikable character heartwarming for audiences. Megan Charpentier played the role of Victoria. She was great in her role. She was very convincing with her character's internal conflict. Isabelle Nelisse played the role of Lily. She was great in her limited role. She added an unexpected adorableness to the film. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau played the roles of Lucas and Jeffrey. He was great in his dual roles. He gave the film some heart.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! It's a great horror film that does more thrills than creates gore.

The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is based off an idea by Ahmet Zappa. It follows a couple, Cindy and Jim Green. They bury a box in Cindy's garden with all of their wishes for a child. They are given the gift of a son, Timothy. They soon face the challenges of parenthood and life.

This film was written and directed by Peter Hedges. This film has a very heartfelt story. It harkens back to old fashioned family values and tells a story about the joys and challenges of parenthood. It also opens audiences to a new perspective on general life. This film's story focuses more on the parents than it does on Timothy. There is just enough to get a faint understanding of Timothy, but not enough to create an fully understood magical world. This film tends to go at a fast pace, and cuts in and out of various sequences. There are moments when the film should have slowed and presented more of the characters or the situations. The ending felt highly rushed, and didn't allow enough time to feel the characters desperation. The characters were very lovable  but were also presented with the average family problems. The backdrop was great for the film. It provided that country home feeling, and also created an atmosphere of subtle magic. As much as this film is a family film, it is more geared to parents than to children.

The cast worked together, and created very lovable characters. Jennifer Garner played the role of Cindy Green. She was great in her generic role. She was very heartfelt. Joel Edgerton played the role of Jim Green. He was great in his generic role. He was heartfelt. CJ Adams played the role of Timothy Green. He was great in his role. He created a character who was different and very childlike. Odeya Rush played the role of Joni Jerome. She was good in her small role.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars. This family film is geared more towards parents. It does cut through a lot of sequences too fast. The characters and the story remains heartfelt and moderately unique.
