The Life of Pi

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is based off the novel, with the same title, written by Yann Martel's. Piscine "Pi" Patel is a young man from Pondicherry, India is forced to move to Canada with his family. His ship sinks into the depths of the ocean forcing him to fight for his survival. He is surprised to find that he is not alone in this fight.

This film was directed by Ang Lee. I was unable to view this film in 3-D, but it would be worth it to see in 3-D. I can't say how true this remains to the novel. This film plays a lot with visual graphics and styles. It brings poetry onto the big screen. The story for this film is great. It brings to light a different perspective of the world, and the people, around us. It does remain focused on a highly religious ideal. However, this film does not corner itself into a single religion. It follows Hinduism, Christianity, and Muslim. The ending leaves you with questions that you don't think about while watching the film. It makes you choose which tale you believe-a kind of looking at yourself type of deal. It does remain heavy on a philosophical level as well. This film also brings to life a culture that has not been seen in recent films. The use of animals was brilliant in this film. They added a different texture to the film. It was also great to see the animals represented as neither good or evil. Rather they are beings trying to survive like humans. There are moments that you can see the computer animation, but its easy to ignore.

The cast worked great together. No matter how small the role was, the actors and the story, made each person feel relevant. Irrfan Khan, Suraj Sharma, Ayush Tandon, and Gautam Belur worked together to create the character Piscine "Pi" Patel. Irrfan Khan, who plays the adult version of "Pi", is great. He delivers terrific monologues during the course of the film. Suraj Sharma is great making the character's tale wholly believable. Adil Hussain and Tabu played the roles of Santosh Patel and Gita Patel. They helped to create the world's philosophical perspective. Rafe Spall played the role of the Writer. He was great in his small role.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! It is a great visual masterpiece, and has a great philosophical story to match. It might not be the non-stop action that most audiences have become accustomed to, but it is worth it to watch once.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

Milo Thatch is pulled into an adventure to discover the lost city of Atlantis. He follows a team of unlikely explorers deep underground to finish what his grandfather had begun.

This film was directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise. This film was a highly unique animation to come from the Disney company. This film was made to appeal to older audiences by cutting out musical sequences and creating a more action paced animation. This was a genre that Disney was new to, and needed some practice with. This film has a fast paced action story. The film also has an amazing animated ending fight sequence. It does lack in creating emotionally deep characters and the story isn't highly gripping to its audiences. The plot is very basic, and the film does not bother to explain any of the small details. It makes the history and the future of Atlantis appear mysterious and confusing. The backdrop animation is amazing to watch, but some of the character animations are awkward to watch. The visual styles were reminiscent of comic books making it unique within the animation world.

The cast worked great together. Many of the characters were kept flat, but entertaining. It would have been nice to see more the characters in the film. Michael J. Fox voiced the role of Milo Thatch. He was good in his role. He created a character that develops by discovering what to fight for. Cree Summer voiced the role of Princess "Kida" Kidagakash. She was good in her role. Most of her character is kept in mystery. She managed to keep the character relatable and kindhearted. Claudia Christian voiced the role of Helga Katrina Sinclair. She was good in her. Unfortunately, her character leaves more of an impression than the real villain does. James Garner voiced the role of Commander Lyle Tiberius Rourke. He was good in his role. It would have been nice to build som kind of connection to him-bad or good. Don Novello voiced the role of Vincenzo "Vinny" Santorini. He was good in his role. He offered some comedic relief to the film. Corey Burton voiced the role of Gaetan "The Mole" Moliere. He was good being pure comic relief for the film. Phil Morris voiced the role of Dr. Joshua Strongbear Sweet. He was good in his small role, even though he spoke a mile a minute. Jacqueline Obradors voiced the role of Audrey Rocio Ramirez. She was good in her role. She gave the film some innocence. Leonard Nimoy voiced the role of King Kashekim Nedakh. He was good in his small role, but it would have been nice to see more of this character.

I give this film 3 out of 5 stars! It is a well drawn animated film, but it fails to provide a gripping story with heartfelt characters.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy reading my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is based off the popular novel, The Hobbit, written by J.R.R. Tolkien. This film, the first of a trilogy, is a prequel story to The Lord of the Rings franchise. Bilbo Baggins receives strange visitors one night after an unusual encounter with Gandalf the Grey. He is persuaded by a group of dwarves to go on an adventure, and help the dwarves reclaim their lost homeland.

This film was directed by Peter Jackson. It follows the Hobbit novel fairly well, but it adds more to the story. It is unusual in that this film is designed as a prequel, so much backstory has to be added to make it feel like a prequel. Some of it kind of feels forced, but still purposeful  There is a return of some familiar old characters from the LOTR's trilogy. It was good to see that no computer animation was added to the actor's face's to make them appear younger. Even though its awkward seeing a familiar character look older in a prequel. What little computer animation that was used is barely noticeable in the film. However, while feeling more realistic there is still an unearthly feel to it. Now, this film is not meant to be the LOTR's. It's a prequel series. It does not live up to the quality of the LOTR's, because there is a happier more whimsical tone to this film. Since this is the case, the emotional segments have less impact on its audiences. It does not, however, lose any of its visual grandeur. This film, as a beginning, feels more focused on traveling. There are moments for the story to pick-up though. Those moments are greatly done to give the characters strength. This film also gives a new face to orcs and trolls. The orcs actually have dialogue, a history, and a culture! It is great seeing more of the stories history (such as why dwarves and elves do not get along). There are several great battle sequences through-out the film. It was great to watch the fighting done with the backdrops and in different environments with different villains. It is cool to see some familiar locations with some new one areas. The computer animated monsters looked great in this film. The computer animation was well done. This film also includes some great songs. The songs are folk tales and it adds some emotion and historical depth to the film. Okay, this film has a 48fps frame rate. It did create some controversy before its release. It is now being received with minor praise and acceptance.

The cast worked great together, and it was great to see the old cast returning for this prequel. It is great to see new light to familiar characters. However, there are a lot of the dwarves company that feel unimportant. They offer little to the story making impossible to remember names. It is so bad, that some of them do not even have any spoken dialogue. Martin Freeman played the role of (young) Bilbo Baggins. He is a great actor in this film. It is unusual seeing Baggins behaving overly cowardly and proper. Comparing Freeman with Ian Holm is like night and day. Ian McKellen played the role of Gandalf the Grey. He was great in his returning role. He kept his familiar powerful fatherly aspect. He did appear slightly more naive and childish in this film, but it worked perfectly for a prequel. Richard Armitage played the role of Thorin Oakenshield.  He was good in his role. It is interesting that his character feels like a leader, but not a king. He is kind of reminiscent of Aragorn.  Ken Stott played the role of Balin. He was good in his small supporting role. Andy Serkis played the role of Gollum. William Kircher, James Nesbitt, Stephen Hunter, Dean O'Gorman, Aidan Turner, John Callen, Peter Hambleton, Jed Brophy, Mark Hadlow, Adam Brown played the roles of Dwalin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Fili, Kili, Oin, Gloin, Nori, Dori, and Ori (the remaining dwarves company).

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! This film is great to watch as an fairytale. It carries on a great legacy for the holidays.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (Winter Holiday)

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, please become a fan of my facebook page!

This film is the third sequel the Lampoon's Vacation series, and is based off a John Hughes short story. Clark Griswold plans to have a big old fashioned family Christmas with his family. However, as Christmas draws closer the more disastrous it becomes.

This film was directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik, and was written by John Hughes. This film has become a modern Christmas classic. It is a great light hearted comedy that families can enjoy. Although, there is some foul language and hints of sex in it. This film has more physical comedy instead of the recent play on words. The story satirizes the family gathering and all the dilemma's with having a traditional Christmas in modern times. It is great to watch events add up to a hilarious climax. It isn't commonly seen most modern films. The cinematography adds to the physical of the film. The snowy backdrops and cheerful house makes for the ultimate Christmas feel.

The cast worked great together. Chevy Chase played the role of Clark Griswold. He was great in his role. He gave the film perfect physical comedy and was able to maintain a likable insanity. Beverly D'Angelo played the role of Ellen Griswold. She was good in her role. She created the general role of the mother fighting to keep everything together. Juliette Lewis played the role of Audrey Griswold. She was good in her role. She didn't have much opportunity to expand on her character. Johnny Galecki played the role of Rusty Griswold. He was good in his role. He did add some small humor to the film. Randy Quaid played the role of Eddie. He was great in his role. He created a characters as iconic as the film series.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! It is a great lighthearted comedy for the holiday seasons.

Rise of the Guardians

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, then you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is based off William Joyce's book series The Guardians of Childhood. Jack Frost, the spirit of winter, is called by the Man in the Moon to become one of the guardians who protect the children of the world. The Sandman, North/Santa Clause, the E.Aster Bunny/Bunny, and the Tooth/Tooth Fairy are called together to fight the nightmares from Pitch (the Boogeyman).  Pitch threatens to destroy everything they have worked to achieve and protect.

This film was directed by Peter Ramsey. The second film to be directed by Peter Ramsey. This film is a perfect children's fairy tale for seasonal holiday. It has the familiarity of a children's fairy tale causing it to be predictable. There are moments when the story moves slow paced, but it is very touching. It would have been nice to see a twist in the end of the film. Give the audience something unexpected. Even if the film is meant to be about all the characters, it generally focuses is on Christmas magic. Which is interesting for it taking place a few days before Easter. The film has terrific use of elemental movements (such as ice, sand, and snow), and great backdrops. Although the Bunny's home felt lacking in splendor. The use of computer animation was well done. Unfortunately  I didn't get to see this film in 3D. The film is an adventure that has something for everyone. It has several adorable moments for girls, and plenty of adventure for boys.

The cast worked great together. It is unfortunate that the secondary characters didn't have as much of a backstory. Pitch's wasn't even fully developed cinematically. This caused some of the characters to fell flat. Chris Pine performed the voice for Jack Frost. He was great in his role. He created the carefree spirit of Jack Frost. He gave the character a face and personality. Alec Baldwin performed the voice of North/Santa Clause. He was good in his role. It was strange to have a russian Santa Clause, but it worked. He was the popularized version of Clause in every since of the word. Isla Fisher performed the voice of Tooth/Tooth Fairy. She was good in her role. She gave the tooth fairy a slightly new look. She looked more like a humming bird than the tradition fairy, but it makes sense. Hugh Jackman performed the voice of the Bunny/E.Aster Bunny. He was great in his role. He gave the Easter Bunny a very new style. Jude Law performed the voice of Pitch. He was amazing in his role. He created a sneaky villain that was completely opposite to Jack Frost.

I give this film 3 out of 5 stars! It is a great family holiday film, but it does feel like there is a lot missing in the story.

The Expendables 2

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is the sequel to Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. Barney Ross is pulled into an agreement with Church as a favor. Ross and his team, along with a technical expert, is sent to collect an item that was on board a downed airplane in Albania. The team finds keeping this item a deadly challenge that they might not be able to finish alone.

This film was directed by Simon West, and not Stallone. This film isn't a direct sequel, its another chapter. This one takes a very different approach to the first film. The film takes a more comedic tone. The comedic tone takes away any emotional depth that would attach an audience to a character. The only real connection to the characters comes from familiarity to the actors, their former roles, and their popular one-liners. The action in the film was good. There was more realism presented in this film than the first film. It had several moments of gore. However, the action was poorly presented. The fight sequences happened too fast making it feel short lived and uneventful. There was a lot of unnecessary computer animation. A lot of time it was too obvious. It was great hearing old songs to place audiences into the spirit of the film. Also, interestingly enough, there is no sex in this film other than hints.

The cast worked great together. It was great to see the original cast returned for this film. I'll keep this short, or it'll be a long list of small roles. Sylvester Stallone played the role of Barney Ross. He was good in his role. He didn't go to over the top this time. Unfortunately, the script failed to make his character stand out. Jason Statham played the role of Lee Christmas. He was good in his role. The character remained the same from the first film. Nan Yu played the role of Maggie. She was great in her role. She got to fight and offer some emotion to the film. Jean-Claude Van Damme played the role of Vilain. literally  that is his character name. His character wasn't given much opportunity to be explored. But, he was a good actor in his role. Liam Hemsworth played the role of Billy The Kid. He was great in his role. He gave the film its only meaningful story. Bruce Willis played the role of Church. He was great in his small role.

I give this film 2 out of 5 stars! It is good as an action film, but not great. It's humor and homages make it worth a watch.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn Pt. 2

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is based off Twilight: Breaking Dawn written by Stephenie Meyer, and is the second part to Breaking Dawn pt. 1. Bella Swan/Cullen has become a newborn vampire with a dhampire child. Bella awakens to her new family and her new vampiric powers. The Volturi still attempt to destroy the Cullen family. It forces the Cullen's to ask other families for assistance.

This film was directed by Bill Condon, who also directed part 1 of this film. This film runs 115 minutes, and the first runs 117 minutes-making it pointless to have this film split into two parts. Both films are rushed, and it is more evident in this film. I will confess, having read the novel, my heart stopped at the beginning of the ending. After the climax battle, it returned. It remains true to the popular novels. It was a very clever tactic. Keeping fans of the novels happy, and keeps fans from feeling cheated. The opening and ending credits were awesome. I loved the use of the red and white colors for the opening. I also loved the ending credits showing the cast from all the films. The vampire effects were well done, and I was glad that the sparkling effect was kept simple. The Volturi still remain bad-ass, and Jane becomes the greatest villain of all time. It is unfortunate that it didn't include her backstory in the film. This film's story does open the world for so much more, and it is present in the film. However, since it is rushed the world isn't as expanded as it could have been. There is also a lack of deep character relationships. The ending battle scene was amazingly well done. It slowed when it needed to, and kept plenty of non-gore action. This film is not gory, but it does have violence. It does contain some sexual content though.

The cast worked great together. Kristen Stewart played the role of Isabella Swan/Cullen. She was good in her role. She kept her expressions limited, but she is improving. Robert Pattinson played the role of Edward Cullen. He was great in his role.  Taylor Lautner played the role of Jacob Black. He was good in his role. He created a slight change in his connection with Bella. Mackenzie Foy played the role of Renesmee. She was good in her role. She was able to convey emotion through expressions instead of words. Ashley Greene played the role of Alice Cullen. She was great in her role. Kellan Lutz played the role of Emmet Cullen. He was good in his role. It was nice to see his character opened up. Michael Sheen played the role of Aro. He was great in his role. There was a few moments of over the topness. The laugh was purely creepy. Dakota Fanning played the role of Jane. She was amazing in her role. She really created a character that was frightening and sadistic. Maggie Grace played the role of Irina. She was good in her small role.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars! This is a great romantic film that ends the popular franchise. However, it has been drawn out too far, and would only really captivate its die hard fans.

Cloud Atlas (2012)

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is based off the 2004 novel, of the same title, written by David Mitchell. This film follows six different stories. In the South Pacific Ocean, 1849, Adam Ewing is traveling through the ocean to get back home. He is infected by a worm and fights to recover from the deadly parasite. In Cambridge, England, 1936, Robert Frobishor is a young musician who becomes a protege. Frobishor struggles to create a masterful work of art. In San Francisco, 1973, Luisa Rey is a reporter. She comes across a startling discovery after meeting Rufus Sixsmith. In the United Kingdom, 2012, Timothy Cavendish is a struggling publicist. He finds himself in trouble with some debt collectors. In Neo Seoul, 2144, Sonmi-451 is a genetically engineered fabricant (clone), a server at a fast food restaurant, is being interviewed before her execution. In the Hawaiian Islans, 2321 or 106 years after the 'fall', Zachry lives as a primitive after most of mankind has died. He is plagued by his people's perspective of the devil ("Old Georgie"). Meronym, on of the last of the 'Prescients' (remnants of technological society). Zachry has to decide to aid Meronym in her quest to search for Cloud Atlas (an outpost to send a message to people who have left Earth).

This film was directed by Tom Tykwer, Andy Wachowski, and Lana Wachowski. Each of them directed different segments of the film. This has been recorded as the most expensive indepent film to create. This film is difficult to follow, because the stories switch between each other frequently. It is also difficult to follow because, audiences are trying to find the connections between all of the stories. The connections remain vague except for one-each of the characters is the same person reincarnated into different lives. What is really great to watch is that there is a small group of actors that portray different characters in each segment. Sometimes it is obvious as to which actor is in what role, but sometimes it catches you off guard. Sometimes the make-up effects look great, but other times it looks terrible. The costumes and the backdrops look great in creating very unique worlds. Each of the stories are very unique in presentation and how they're told. The 1849's story is great. It has some deep emotion to it, but it mainly presents a man discovering himself in the world. The 1936's story was great to watch. It is deeply emotional and darkly romantic. The 1973's story is good. It has some political aspect to it, but it also has the first spark of rebellion. The 2012 story was the most pointless to the film, but it provided the film with great humor. The 2144 story is great, and it was a very dystopian futuristic world. The story had a lot of small details that weren't explained appropriately. A lot of questions that were left unanswered. The 2321 story is great. It shows the decline of civilization, and the perspective future. Yes, it is a lot to follow. It is hard to follow since when you get into one of the stories it'll switch to another. You have to keep memory of where each story left off. The stories do however lead to a great endings. It is one of those films that you'll either love or hate.

The cast worked great together. The only problem with reusing the same cast is that sometimes they did not look the part they were playing. It is a lot of characters to sort through, so forgive me if I make a mistake. Tom Hanks played the roles of Dr. Henry Goose, Hotel Manager, Isaac Sachs, Dermot Hoggins, Cavendish (look-a-like character), and Zachry. He was great in his various roles. He really managed to create very different characters. Halle Berry played the roles of Native Woman, Jocasta Ayrs, Luisa Rey, Indian Party Guest, Ovid, and Meronym. She was great in her various roles. Jim Broadbent played the roles of Captain Molyneux, Vyvyan Ayrs, Timothy Cavendish, Korean Musician, and Prescient 2. He was great in his various roles. He created several different small roles with one major role. Doona Bae played the roles of Tilda, Megan's Mom, Mexican Woman, Sonmi-451, and Sonmi prostitute. She was great in her various roles. She was great in various roles becoming unrecognizable a lot of the time.  Ben Whinshaw played the roles of Cabin Boy, Robert Frobisher, Store Clerk, Georgette, and Tribesman. He was great in his various roles. Hugo Weaving played the roles of Haskell Moore, Tadeusz Kesseiring, Bill Smoke, Nurse Noakes, Boardman Mephi, and Old Georgie. He was great in his various roles. He was great creating the various villains for most of the worlds.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! It is a great complex film. It can be hard to understand at times, but it still has a great ending.

Answer to last blog: Actress Judi Dench has acted as the character M, in 7 James Bond film.

Que: What other film has directors Andy and Lana Wachowski worked on together?

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Love Actually

(007) Skyfall

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is based off the character created by Ian Fleming (1953). This film follows agent 007. An accident left James Bond injured, and assumed dead. Bond returns to help protect MI6, and M.

This film was directed by Sam Mendes. This film harkens back to the classic James Bond films. It keeps the technological gadgets simple, and familiar to classic Bond. This film does take a risk in probing more into agent 007's back story and his relationship with M. This film is familiair to classic Bond, but it is also very different. The throwbacks to the classic films was great to try and catch. The opening digital sequence wasn't the best in the 23rd film series. The song was also very different from other Bond film taking a more grim perspective. The story is very deep and depends more on its story than its action. The ending of the film is more emotionally deep than major ultimate fight sequence. This film also boasts a lot of comedic one liners. The action sequences were simpler, but highly effective. It was also great to see a James Bond film without any over the top fancy gadgets. The Bond girls were interesting in this film. It had all different versions of girls in this film, and it worked for the film.

The cast worked great together. Daniel Craig returned, for his third time, to his role of James Bond. He was great in this film. He did explore the emotional depths of his character while keeping him as a bad ass. Judi Dench returned to her role as M. She was great in her role. She created a unique perspective of her character. Javier Bardem played the role of Silva. He was great in his role. He played the unconventional villain. Ben Whinshaw played the role of Q. He was great in his small role. He brought back a familiar character to the film. Ralph Fiennes played the role of Gareth Mallory. He was great in his small role.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars! It does take a risk in changing how James Bond films are presented. It takes a more emotional perspective, but keeps enough action to make the film great to watch.

The Collector (2009)

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

Arkin is works at the house that he intends to rob. On the night of the robbery he comes across an unexpected surprise. The family is trapped inside the house as the Collector is slowly torturing the family to death. Arkin is forced to make the grisly decision of helping the family, or letting suffer their fate.

"He always takes one". This film was directed and written by Marcus Dunstan. This is his first film to direct. This film was originally intended to be a Saw prequel, which is why the films horror style is so similar to the Saw films. So, yes, it is torture porn. This film definitely was not intended for children. The story is great for general horror. There isn't much backstory to this film. It has a very general plot to scare audiences. It doesn't really offer anything new to the genre except for a new killer face. It possible that a new horror icon might have been created. It has a fairly large body count, and plenty of gore to keep audiences squirming in their seats. It is very good at keeping the desperation, and the urge to scream 'run'. This film uses great cinematography to build up the suspense of certain situations. There is also a lot of play off sounds.

The cast worked well creating the chaos for the film. Since this is torture porn there isn't much character development. Most of the characters are present to be corpses. Josh Stewart played the role of Arkin. He was great in his role. He gave the film true panic and emotional desperation. Karley Scott Collins played the role of Hannah Chase. She was good in her role. She gave the film some innocence  Madeline Zima played the role of Jill Chase. She was good in her small role. She was the general rebellious teenager. Andrea Roth and Michael Reilly Burke played the roles of Victoria and Michael Chase. They were good in their very small roles.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! This is a great horror film-especially if you love the sub-genre. It is moderately predictable, and doesn't create anything new for the horror world.

This film follows Ralph, a video game villain from the arcade game Fix-It Felix, Jr. Ralph finds himself lonely and wanting more than just being the hated villain. He rebels against the beliefs and begins to game jump in hopes of finding the medal that will improve his life.

This film was directed by Rich Moore. His first animated film to direct. This film is a great film for children and adults. The film is full of familiar old characters from arcade games, and presents new ones. Unfortunately  there isn't much use for the familiar game characters other than fun to catch material. It is great to catch all the various references  and it does have a very cute story to follow. The story is predictable to most animated children's films. It has very likable and heartfelt characters that all children can enjoy. Which was great for this very character driven film. It was impressive how each character had a story that was wholly represented through the film. The story also shows that Disney has some respect for video games as an art style. It mixes various graphic styles to create each different video game world. It worked perfectly for the game, because they were able to create a kind of tempo for all the different worlds. It gave the film a very authentic feel. This film is very open in visual art styles and worlds which is rare in most modern films.

The cast worked great together. It is interesting that film didn't feature any child voice actors though. John C. Reilly voiced the character Wreck-It Ralph. He was great in his role. He created a villain that was full of heart. He became a character that audiences could easily relate to. Sarah Silverman voiced the character Vanellope von Schweetz. She was great in her role. She created the kid that everyone could fall in love with, and keep her acting like a child. Jack McBrayer voiced the character Fix-It Felix. He was great in his role. He created the very innocent character. Jane Lynch voiced the character Calhoun. She great in her role. She was the bad-ass in this film, but allowed her character to still have some deep emotion. Alan Tudyk voiced the character King Candy. This character reminded me so much of the Mad Hatter from the original Alice in Wonderland animated classic. He was very entertaining to watch as a character even with all of his strangeness.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! It does have a predictable plot, but it works for the film. It pays homage to the classic arcade video games, and can be enjoyed by all audiences.

Resident Evil: Damnation (Biohazard: Damnation)

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is based off characters from the Resident Evil franchise created by Capcom, and is a sequel to Resident Evil: Degeneration (Biohazard: Degeneration). This film has the return of United States Special Agent Leon S. Kennedy. B.O.W.'s (Bio Organic Weapons), biological weapons, have appeared during a turbulent in the Eastern Slave Government. Leon decides to disobey the orders of his American government to evacuate and destroy the B.O.W.'s and find the cause for the attacks.

This film was directed by Makoto Kamiya. This is a computer animated film. The story is familiar to the Resident Evil franchise. An outbreak occurs, and there is an attempt to stop it. It also keeps the familiar popular characters from the franchise. The characters carry the story as they try to survive the onslaught of mutated monsters. This plot is predominately driven by the fighting sequences. The script is lacking with emotional depth, but it is full of single liners. The monsters and the characters looked great in this film. The computer animated graphics resonante the game graphics. The graphics for the scenery were exceptionally great. It was odd that at moments the backdrop was better than other graphics. There were a few familiar monsters to the game franchise, but others were new. The voice acting did appear to be slightly off a few times. It is easy to see this film as the prequel to the game Resident Evil 6.

The voice actors worked good together. Matthew Mercer voiced the character Leon S. Kennedy. He was good in his role. He created the favorite character who was a badass and had heart. Dave Wittenberg voiced the character Buddy/Alexander 'Sasha' Kozachenko. He was good at adding the humor to the film. Courtney Taylor voiced the character Ada Wong. She was great in her role creating the favorite character. She gave her character a sensuality and a certain indestructibility. Val Tasso voiced the character JD. He was good in his role. Wendee Lee voiced the character Svetlana Belikova. She was great in her role. She created the character that everyone could despise.

I give this film 3 out of 5 stars! It is a good overall film that helps to carry the series. It's full of great action, but it is moderately lacking in a deep story.

Answer to last blog: Harry Mason was a playable character in Silent Hill, but is featured in other games in the franchise.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy me facebook page!

This film is based off Silent Hill 3 created by Konami, and is a direct sequel to the film Silent Hill (directed by Christophe Gans). Heather Mason finds herself having visions of a town known as Silent Hill (an alternate hell dimension). After her father disappears, she travels with Vincent to find her missing father in Silent Hill.

This film was directed by Michael J. Bassett. This film is a direct on screen representation of the Silent Hill 3 game-no other way around it. It the game and changed it slightly to better fit as a sequel to the first film. I can see why it got negative reviews from critics, because this film was made more for lovers of the franchise. The story might appear confusing, because a lot of things are happening in this 94 minute film. If you've played the game it is easier to understand it. It also allows fans to pick up all the small tributes to the game franchise, and the familiar characters that appear in the end. The story follows Heather Mason, whose name is actually Sharon. In this film she wasn't reincarnated, but instead managed to escape Silent Hill, and grow into a young adult. This film follows her discovery of her own past. I think this film didn't fully pay attention to the small details that could've pieced it together much easier. But, it did a great job in creating a film sequel. This film does amp up the gore by a lot, and provides plenty of horror tension. It provides several disturbing sequences. So, this film is not for children. The creatures in this film were done amazingly well. They created several familiar monsters from the video games. They also created an awesome amped up mannequin spider villain, and a twist on the missionary monster in this film. It was also great how the monsters played with the 3D effects.

The cast worked great together. It was also great that most of the former cast returned for this remake. Although, it is a shame that Jodelle Ferland did not return. Adelaide Clemens played the role of Heather Mason/Alessa. She was great in her role. She created the iconic character perfectly, and gave the film a strong heart. Kit Harington played the role of Vincent. He was good in his role. His character is different from the game. But, he was good in his role providing a new image for the character. Sean Bean played the role of Harry Mason/Christopher Da Silva. He was great re-praising his role. Carrie-Ann Moss played the role of Claudia. It is unfortunate that her character didn't appear more in the film. Her being in only the final few minutes kept her from being a true villain unfortunately. Malcolm McDowell played the role of Leonard. He was great in his small role.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! I really enjoyed this film. Granted, its probably because I'm a fan of the franchise. It is also a good thriller film for the holidays.

Magic Mike

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!

Adam, a nineteen year old boy whose struggling to keep a job, gets pulled into the world of male stripping by Mike Lane. He becomes a protege at Dallas' and Magic Mike's nightclub. He quickly become ensnared into a world of women and fast cash.

This film was directed by Steven Soderbergh. This film is also loosely based off Channing Tatum's personal experiences as a male stripper in Tampa, Florida. This film took a different direction then what was presented in commercials. It appeared to be a straight up romantic comedy, but is instead a romantic drama, with a touch of comedy and tons of sex. The story keeps a very serious tone about innocence being tainted. It also provides the image of how hard it is to leave a wicked world. That being said there is some nudity, but never the full monty (sorry ladies), and drugs. The tainting of innocence was appropriately  but the romance was not. The connection between Mike and Brooke felt more like an usual friendship rather than a romance. The scene on the beach did not come out good on camera, because of either bad computer animation or a bad reflection. The rest of the cinematography was great. It gave a sense of where the characters were, and kept that feeling of desperation. This is a good chick flick that provides women the opportunity to see some hot men stripping.

The cast worked well together. Alex Pettyfer played the role of Adam. He was good in his role. This is a great film for him to build his Hollywood name. It allowed him to become a sexual icon, and show his acting skills. Channing Tatum played the role of Mike Lane/Magic Mike. He was good in his role. He created a character torn between his present life, and wanting something more. Cody Horn played the role of Brooke. She was decent her role. She tended to ome off as hateful towards everyone, and didn't provide the heart the film needed. Matthew McConaughey played the role of Dallas. He was great in his role. He created a highly outrageous character that audiences could enjoy. Olivia Munn played the role of Joanna. She was good in her small role.

I give this film 3 out of 5 stars! This is a good film to see with your girlfriends, and enjoy attractive male strippers. The film was lacking in a deep romance, but it had an emotional pull.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is a remake Wes Craven's 1984 film of the same title. Dean Russell commits suicide in the Springwood Diner. This leads his friends, Kris Fowles, Jesse Braun, Quentin Smith, and Nancy Hollbrook to face the forgotten man of their nightmares-Freddy Krueger.

This re-imagining was directed by Samuel Bayer. This is Bayer's film directorial debut. This film is a retelling of the familiar classic slasher horror film. It is also filled with some fan favorites. Bringing several popular scenes and lines keeps it from feeling wholly original. This film adds much more back story to the legend. It does take away some of the mystery horror, but it provides a mental ride. This film uses less imagination and more psychology to its film. Naturally, Englund can't fully be replaced as Freddy. This film changes the image of Freddy slightly. He is less smart ass and more psychological. The new Freddy face is good, but it has a little too much computer animation to look realistic. There are several moments that make you jump and squirm. It is also full of blood.

The cast worked great together. Jackie Earle Haley played the role of Freddy Krueger. He was great in his role. Like I said, there is no replacing Englund. However, he was great reprising this role. He made his character less slimy and more psychological. Rooney Mara played the role of Nancy Hollbrook. She was good in her role. She created a new face for the female victim. Kyle Gallner played the role of Quentin Smith. He was good in his role. He carried the film in the ways Mara's character should have. Katie Cassidy played the role of Kris Fowles. She was good in her role. She was the stereotypical victim. She was the clone of her counterpart, Tiny Gray. Thomas Dekker played the role of Jesse Braun. He was great in his role. Kellan Lutz played the role of Dean Russell. He was good in his small role.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars! It is a general good slasher film, but it does not live up to the original.

Sweeny Todd: The Demon of Fleet Street (2007)

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, please like my facebook page!

This film is an adaptation from Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's 1979 musical; which retells the Victorian penny dreadful story The String of Pearls. After being forcibly sent away from London, he returns with the name Sweeny Todd. He returns to his old home with small hope, but is surprised to find Mrs. Lovett. He becomes consumed with vengeance against Judge Turpin.

This film was directed by Tim Burton. This film was director Burton's first musical, and it used his familiar cast. This film is also one of the few horror musicals to receive positive reviews. Mostly because it reminds several of the 1979 musical. This film does apply more to either musical lover, horror movie fanatics, or Tim Burton/Johnny Depp fans. This film has a very deep and great story. It is also very creepy and sinister  The music works perfectly to present the stories progress and the character development. The backdrop is Burton's usual gothic style-turning old Lodon streets into computer animated goth dream. The costumes and make-up affects reflect the similar style. This film also has tons of obviously fake blood. It does go over the top at times. The cinematography was well done. It really showed the descent into madness, and the chaos surrounding each of the characters.

The cast worked great together in film. Johnny Depp played the role of Sweeny Todd/Benjamin Barker. He was great in his role. He proved that he had more talents than just acting-he can sing. He really gave this character sympathy and insanity. Helena Bonham Carter played the role of Mrs. Lovett. She was great in her role. She created a sensible sympathetic lady. Alan Rickman played the role of Judge Turpin. He was great in his role. He created this just despicable character. Jaime Campbell Bower played the role of Anthony. He was great in his small role. He gave the film its hope. Timothy Spall played the role of Beadle. He was great adding to the despicableness of Rickman's character. Ed Sanders played the role of Toby. He was great in his role. Jayne Wisener played the role of Johanna. She was great in her role. She gave the film so much innocence. Sacha Baron Cohen played the role of Pirelli. He was good in his role. He played his familiar outlandish character style, but was able to act normal.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! It is a great horror musical. It has a great story even if it does go slightly over the top at times.

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!

The space ship Elysium was created to transport billions of people from an overpopulated Earth to Tanis (an alien planet that can support life). Corporal Bower and Lieutenant Payton awaken from hypersleep and discover that something is wrong with Elysium. Corporal Bower sets out to restart reactor. Both Bower and Payton quickly discover that are more things wrong with Elysium than they imagined.

This film was directed by Christian Alvart, and produced by W.S. Anderson. Alvart is an upcoming horror director. This film combines the genres horror with science fiction. Genre mixed films tend to get horrible reviews. This film does a great job in manipulating its cinematography to visually tell the two stores of Payton and Bower. Since this film has such a small cast, it allowed for great character development. The story had some great plot twists, even if they were somewhat predictable. It was great watching this film manipulate the present story with the back story. Which was done through hints mostly. The creature make-up was great and creepy. It didn't present anything new to the horror genre as far as monsters go. There is great action sequences in this film. This film doesn't make you jump a lot, but it does have an unsettling story. This film is terrifying in its psychology.

The cast worked great together. They provided the unsettling edge the film needed. Ben Foster played the role of Corporal Bower. He was great in his role. He gave the film heart. It was great watching him slowly descending into madness. Dennis Quad played the role of Lieutenant Payton.  He was great in his role. He gave the film its dark tone. He was great in playing the calm kind of crazy. Antje Traue played the role of Nadia. She was great in her role. She got to play a badass survivor. Cung Lee played the role of Manh. He was great in his non-speaking role. He gave the film its action. Cam Gigandet played the role of Gallo. He was great creating the insane character. Eddie Rouse played the role of Leland. He was great in his small role.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! It is a great psychological thriller film. It can be predictable, but its does great with its small cast.

White Noise

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!

Jonathan Rivers' wife mysterious became missing one night. Raymond Price appears and explains that his wife had died, and that she was speaking to him. Jonathan Rivers becomes obsessed with the idea of E.V.P (electronic voice phenomena), and speaking with his deceased wife.

This film was directed by Geoffrey Sax. This film plays off the popular ideal of E.V.P., or electronic voice phenomena. That is that spirits will speak to the living through the static white noise of electronic devices. This film is a horror film, but it is more of a dramatical mystery horror film. This film does have some jump in your seat moments, but its mostly carried with dramatic tension. I think it gave a lot of audiences a misconception of its intent. Anyway, it has some truth to its supernatural horror. It is a good film for its dramatic tension. I really enjoyed how the established the villains in this film.

The cast worked great together. Michael Keaton played the role of Jonathan Rivers. He was great in his role. He kept his falling into obsession subtle, and he kept his character emotionally open. Ian McNeice played the role of Raymond Price. He was great in his small role. Deborah Kara Unger played the role of Sarah Tate. She was great in her role adding great dramatic tension to the film. Chandra West played the role of Anna Rivers. She was good in her small role.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars! It is a great dramatic mystery film. It has great dramatic tension with great character development.

Cybil Bennett

This film is a remake off the 1984 film which was based off the 1977 short story, of the same title, by Stephen King. In 1975, a young troubled couple, Burt and Vicky, are traveling through Nebraska. Burt and Vicky are caught by surprise when they hit a dying kid on the open highway. They enter the town of Gatlin to try and find someone who could help them. Instead the town is abandoned except for a group of violent pegan children who follow  the God known as "He Who Walks Behind the Rows". These children believe that all adults should be sacrificed.

This film was directed and written by Donald P. Borchers. This film is very different from it's 1984 original. This film follows the Stephen King's story more closely. It is very different in that it focuses more on the characters. The story made the children seem more lost in pretending to be the adults of their world. It also made the two leading characters highly undesirable. I still prefer the original even if it was Hollywoodized. This film has mostly weird, and lacked the true creepiness that the original possessed. It is interesting that this is the first remake, and that the original produced seven sequels. This film is still somewhat creepy, and is much more adult. It has a very unnerving sex scene and more blood than the original.

The cast worked good together. It is great that they used real children for this remake. David Anders played the role of Burton Stanton. He was good in his role. He found a balance of survival and his own insanity. Kandyse McClure played the role of Vicky Stanton. She was good in her annoying role. Preston Bailey played the role of Isaac. He was good in his role. He did feel slightly forced in his role, but he did good. Daniel Newman played the role of Malachai. He was good in his revised role. He is wholly different from the original film.

I give this film 3 out of 5 stars! It's a good horror film that diverges from the original film.

12 Monkeys

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, please become a fan of my facebook page!

This film was inspired by Chris Marker's short film Le Jetee or The Jetty/The Pier (1962). In 1997, there is a violent outbreak of deadly virus that murder off most of the human population. This virus outbreak forces humans to live underground allowing animals to take control of the earth's surface. James Cole lives in the dystopian future and is kept within a prison. He is chosen to volunteer to do research to help a group figure out how to better aid their future. Cole is sent into the future, for being a good observer, to find the pure form of the virus. He is sent to the year 1990. This sets him on collision course of past, future, and present and deciding on how he wants to live his life.

This film was directed by Terry Gilliam. "Psychology is the newest religion, and I'm losing my faith", one of the great lines spoken from the film. This script has several one liners that open the mind to several questions, and fails to provide any answers to the questions it creates. Such as can you change the future by traveling into the past, or is it set in stone. It questions life, time travel, psychology, etc. This script carries the story as such. It opens up questions without any answers. This does leave the story with some flaws, mostly small flaws. There is enough mystery to make you wonder if the character's insane or if he really is time traveling. The future is very dystopian and often comes off as bizarre. The past is dystopian with some control to it. It is great to see how the dystopia in the past causes the chaos in the future. The camera angels really pull the stories chaos into perspective. This film is very bleak, and it manages to accomplish this bleak feeling through out the story. It especially makes the characters relationships feel emotionally desperate. I enjoyed it played ironic music through the film. There isn't a ton of action in this film since its mainly carried by its story.

The cast worked great together. Bruce Willis played the role of James Cole. He was good in his role. Although his character was presented confusingly, he kept the character realistic. Madaeleine Stowe played the role of Kathryn Railly. She was good in her role. She gave the film much of its chaos and heart. Brad Pitt played the role of Jeffrey Goines. He was great in his role. He truly gave the film that psychotic feel. Jon Seda played the role of Jose. He was good in his small role.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars! This film is a great time traveling film. It is also a great sociological film. However, it does have some small flaws and it is highly bizarre visually.

Seven Psychopaths

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, please become a fan of my facebook page!

This follows Marty, a struggling screenwriter looking for some inspiration. He decides to write a script about seven psychopaths. Billy is attempting to help Marty find his inspiration to finish the script. Billy and his friend Hans kidnap Charlie's (a gangster's) Shih Tzu dog (Bonnie). Marty finds himself caught in an usual situation as Charlie begins attempting to murder Billy and Hans to take back his dog.

This film was written and directed by Martin McDonagh. This film has a very unique story that balances between character development and morbid satire with a hint of emotional turmoil. This unique story has a great script, but some of the filming sequences leave you with the question "what am I watching". There are moments when the script drags for Character development. Then there are random out of no-where moments that just make you laugh. These random moments make the film worth seeing once. The one lined satire is great for this film. There are moments when it makes fun of itself within the film. The sequences where it shows the stories of the psychopaths (not all of which are actually in the poster) didn't need to be in the film. The dog, Bonnie, was adorable to watch in the film. There are several great plot twists during the film generally presented by someone's murder. The violence was overplayed, and it gave the film a slapstick comedy feel. Some of the characters didn't feel necessary to the actual story. However, they did provide great humorous moments. This film feels more like a cult classic that audience's will enjoy.

The cast worked surprisingly well together. Colin Farell played the role of Marty. He was great acting with the subtlety of his eyebrows. He really created a great character full of self turmoil. Sam Rockwell played the role of Billy. He was great playing the most unpredicatable character in the film. He presented the character's innocence and insanity. Christopher Walken played the role of Hans. He was good in his role. His kept was very subdued through the film, but he wasn't dead. He also had some of the greatest lines in the film. Woody Harrelson played the character Charlie. He was good in his role. He played a familiar character type that worked for this film. Linda Bright Clay played the role of Myra. She was great adding some deep emotion to the film. Tom Waits played the role of Zachariah. He was great in his small role. He gave the film some amazing humor.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars! It's got some great humor, and fun characters. It doesn't full piece well together cinematically.

The Tall Man (2012)

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

In a small ex-mining town in Washington State, children have been disappearing. The belief is that a monster known as the Tall Man has been abducting the children of this small town. Julia Denning is the towns doctor who lives on her own with Christine and her son David. Her son David is taken one night, and she fights to rescue him. In her plight discoveries about the town and about herself are revealed.

This film was directed by Pascal Laugier. He is a new director to the horror genre. This fim differently makes him stand out in the genre, because this film is a thriller drama without any actual gore in it. The story does take you on an unsettling mind trip. The film begins one way, and then it starts to turn this way, and then it slams you into a different reality. It also tackles an unexpected sociological argument. This film is an chase film. This does give the film of how much more can the character survive through. This film was excellently cinematically manipulated to keep audience's guessing. Which is why is was great following the character Julia Denning through the story. It was great to see this characters constant struggles. I did enjoy how the backdrop for the film appeared to be unending and isolated. It appears small in the beginning, but as the film progress' it builds to a maze like backdrop.

The cast worked great together. Jessica Biel played the role of Julia Denning. She was great in this film. She really carried the film with all of its craziness  Eve Harlow played the role of Christine. She was good in her role. She didn't do much to stand out, but it worked for the character. Jodelle Ferland played the role of Jenny (narrator). She has such a career in horror movies. It's easy to see why even in this film. She was great in her role. Stephen McHattie played the role of Lieutenant Dodd. He was good, but he definitely didn't stand out in anyway. He almost seemed pointless to the film. Jakob Davies played the role of David. He was good in his small role.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! It has a great story, and it does bring something new to the horror genre.

Frankenweenie

Caution: This might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you might enjoy my facebook page!

This remastering of an 1984 animated stop-motion short, of the same title, pays homage to James Whale's Frankenstein (based off Mary Shelley's novel).  Young Victor Frankenstein decides to re-animate his deceased dog, Sparky, after a terrible accident. His small experiment begins to affect the town in ways Victor couldn't have imagined.

This film was directed by Tim Burton. The film is based from his animated stop-motion short. This film isn't his best in comparison to The Nightmare Before Christmas, but it does have a heartfelt story. It is interesting that this film has come out during a time when gothic animated films are coming out for Halloween. It follows a similar storyline to the others films, but it does remain unique with its characters. This film spends a great amount of its story parodying classic horror films.  At the same time, it also maintains respect for the classics. The story is very heartwarming, but it is predictable. It was great that this briefly took on the controversial philosophical arguments involving science and life and death. Watching the stop-motion was great. It is amazing to to know that there are directors who are still willing to take the time to create these style of films. It was also great seeing all the subtle jokes created with camera angle's and the background. It was also great seeing all the classic monsters with a twist. This film was made for children. But it might frighten small children, because it has the classic horror movie feel. So, yes this film is entirely in black and white.

The cast worked great together in creating unique characters. Charlie Tahan voiced the character Victor Frankenstein. He was great in his role giving the main character heart. Atticus Shaffer voiced the character Edgar 'E' Gore. He was great in his role creating a creepy character that was still lovable. Winona Ryder voiced the character Elsa Van Helsing. She was great in this role. It is good to see her name appear in theaters once again. Martin Landau voiced the character Mr. Rzykruski. He was great being the voice of reason. James Hiroyuki Liao voiced the character Toshiaki. He was great adding humor to the film. Martin Short voiced the characters Mr. Frankenstein, Mr. Burgemeister, and Nassor. He was great voicing all these different characters. Catherine O'Hara voiced the characters Mrs. Frankenstein, Weird Girl, and Gym Teacher. She was also great voicing all these different characters.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars! This film is a great animated film for the Halloween season. It pays homage to the classic horror films.
