The Devil's Double

Caution: This Mght Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is an alleged biography based on the life of Latif Yahia. Latif In 1987, Yahia finds himself forced to become Uday Hussein's (Saddam Hussein's son) doppelganger. Latif see's the chilling reality of Hussein's sadistic son, and is forced to make life and death choices.

This film was directed by Lee Tamahori. There is no evidence to prove the accounts of this story as being accurate. There also isn't any evidence that Latif knew anyone from Hussein's regime. However, this film does offer a different image for a brutal dictator. The story constantly suggests the violence and sexual abuse that Uday creates, because he is unhappy. For all its violence, in some ways it treats the war as a kind of a joke-at least to the Hussein family. This film also offers a different image for Baghdad. Instead of only seeing the improvised living in stone dwellings, you see more city landscapes and more modern lifestyles. Dominic Cooper played the dual roles of Uday Hussein and Latif Yahia. He was great in creating two very opposite personalities and making them believable.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars! It is worth the film to see Cooper's great acting. This film has all the violence and sexuality of a modern gangster film-which is unusual during wartime in Baghdad.
