Hercules (2014)

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

This film is based off the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars. After completing his twelves labors and being banished from Athens, Hercules becomes a paid fighter. He agrees to help Lord Cotys, ruler of Thrace, defeat a tyrannical war lord.

This film was directed by Brett Ratner. Sadly, this film was released in the same year as 'The Legend of Hercules' film. However, this film presents a very different image of the famous demi-god Hercules. He is brought down from the legend and becomes a very strong human man. It also takes all of his labors and paints are more realistic picture of how they occurred-with friends. As fantastical and epic as the story is, it still shows a familiar heroic character. The story itself is surprising, but very familiar to the genre. The unexpected moments of humor work to keep the film from becoming to dramatic. There is a lot of action, and some blood, in this film. There is also a lot of computer animation used, but it doesn't hurt the film. The creatures in this film are great to watch because we can see them as beasts that turn into something more believable. Dwayne Johnson plays the role of Hercules. Naturally, everyone will be distracted by his costume. However, his honest performance makes the film enjoyable to watch. John Hurt played the role of Lord Cotys. He was great at opposing Johnson, but could've stood out more as a villain.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars! It has a great cast working together in a decently done action film.

This film can be seen on Netflix Instant Que.
