Cake (2014)

Caution: This Might Contain Spoilers!
If you enjoy my blog, you may enjoy my facebook page!

Claire Bennett begins contemplating suicide after a woman in her chronic pain support group ends her life. Claire continues struggles with these thoughts and emotions while trying to overcome her personal tragedy.

This film was directed by Daniel Barnz. This film presents an emotional story about a woman trying to cope with the loss of her son from an accident. The story remains more focused on the present struggles, and slowly reveals little bits of the past. It really is a statement about overcoming loss and trying to find a reason to continue living. That being said, there is nothing really likable about the central character. After a while, it feels more like the story should've been told from the maid's perspective to liven it up a little. However dark this film is, there is still a glimmer of hope to it. Jennifer Aniston played the role of Claire Bennett. This is definitely a change in Aniston's career. Even though her character is unlikable, her snarky humor makes it worth the watch. Her performance also made the chronic pain believable. Adriana Barraza played the role of Silvana. She kept this film from being too devastating, and worked great with Aniston.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars1 It might not be award worthy, but it is a great dramatic film.

This film can be seen on Netflix Instant Que.
