This is loosely based off the novel, with the same title, written by Joe Hill. Accused of the murder of his girlfriend, Ignatius "Ig" Perrish wakes up to horns growing on his head. He soon discovers that these horns have the ability to make people confess their sins and obey his whims. Ig uses this ability to discover the actual murderer.
This film was directed by Alexandre Aja. This film's tone is a clash of genre's. It starts as a dark comedy fantasy, and then turns into a drama horror fantasy. If the film had remained solely horror and drama then it would have been amazing instead of confusing. However, it change in tone comes from the characters revelations which gives the film its saving grace. The story itself is surprisingly emotional and thrilling. However, it does leave a question about what are his powers can actually do and how strong they are. I did enjoy that they never explained the reason for it though. The backdrop can be seen as dark, but it is too charming to be seen as anything except magical fantasy. The characters names also gives the illusion of fantasy charm. Daniel Radcliffe played the role of Ignatius Perrish. His emotional performance gave the film its appeal. Joe Anderson played the role of Terry Perrish. He was a great supporting actor for the Radcliffe. Max Minghella played the role of Lee Tourneau. His sympathetic performance was perfect for the film.
I give this film 4 out of 5 stars! It is a good fantasy film, but its lack of genre focus hurts it.
